To start off the winter quarter at the University of Denver, students in MFJS 2240 were told to document the first two weeks of activity from the campus community around them via Twitter
Personally, I documented my week and responded to classmates through my regular Twitter account, @moretoast9, and always with the hashtag #DUstories
Freestyle, Sophomore Season: ‘Tis the season for applying to study abroad, and many who chose to kick back and relax during their holidays are now faced with a big deadline on January 17th.
Extracurricular Extravaganza, Intramural Sports: Hudson Cramer as athletics chair of his fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau, is proud that his brothers plan to participate in each of the 9 sports offered by the school this winter
Fanatic Fan, Nuggets Basketball: With the Denver Nuggets battling for the number one seed in the Western Conference pretty consistently this NBA season, fans such as Denver native Chase Crocker have plenty of reason to build some hype around a potential deep playoff run in the spring.
Student on the Street, Thoughts on the Winter: I ran into Sam Lasin on my walk back from class, and he invited me to hop into his friend’s house for a quick video on his personal goals during the upcoming 10 weeks.
Seasonal Fun, Accumulation Sensation: Not only were the cars off the streets for the most part last weekend, the snow sticking to the roads and sidewalks kept many students indoors as well. This made for a calm and quiet couple of days during the first weekend of the quarter.
Academic Excellence, The Future of DU: One Denver, Colorado block houses both the Nagel Innovation Lab as a part of our engineering program, and also the Newman Center for Performing Arts. These two immaculate buildings are home to people doing top-tier work in their respected fields.
Favorite Food, Cluck Chicken: DU students had to fare with snowy conditions this weekend, rendering their food choices to anything that delivers, such as this (devoured) basket of wings from Cluck Chicken.
Scenic Spot, Outside Andersen:Along with receiving tons of foot traffic and thus opportunity for viewing, this tiny fork in the walkways outside the library and sophomore dorms make for a scenic sight that’s easy on the eyes.
School Spirit, The Week One Hustle: The University community is officially all systems go, with traffic having to be redirected to accommodate the construction plans in place for future Pioneers.
Engagements
Along with our personal content, students were tasked with responding to and sharing our favorite tweets from the rest of our class. I will be posting my replies to several of these tweets, from those which I found to be my favorite. I selected the ones I did due to the subject matter, as it either made me think on a fond area of interest of mine, or provided further information on DU’s campus that I would not have searched for otherwise.
